Kentucky Alliance For Adoption Truth & Transparency

We’re building a grassroots network connecting with those who support truth & transparency in all adoptions in the state of Kentucky. Mutually, we support truth and transparency for all adopted adults in the state of Kentucky. We believe 100% truth and transparency should be the core focus of all adoptions, past, present and future.

In our collective efforts we aim to build a grassroots network of support, because we’re believing the state of Kentucky will have full unrestricted access for adult adoptees to receive their original birth certificates like ten other states in the United States of America.

Those states are; Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Oregon and Rhode Island. As we notice this shift in other states, many of us long for this here in our own state. We’re calling on those who long for changes in laws, policy and practice in adoption. We’re creating the space to spark some conversations, which we ultimately need for adoption reform to happen.

If we do nothing, things will never change for Kentucky. Across the board, we wish to restore access to original birth certificates for all adopted adults in the state of Kentucky.

We believe the most sympathetic way to do this is by adult adoptees gaining unrestricted access to their original birth certificates. While DNA testing is dominating the scenes, it’s also putting a very private and personal situation on the front line for family members to make connections, specifically “outing” the birth parents in a very public way.

When the possibility of a one on one connection can be made by restoring access of Original Birth Certificates to adult adoptees, the two parties ( biological parent/s & adoptee ) have a choice to connect one on one. When this isn’t possible because of the laws in the state of Kentucky,  extraordinary measures are taken with DNA testing. We feel it’s much more kind and compassionate to be able to give this option to adoptees and birth parents vs. the possibility of making a personal situation very public via DNA testing. Of course while the Kentucky adoption records are restricted, we have no choice but to use DNA testing. Most birth mothers today would prefer the chance to connect one on one, than the possibility of being publicly outed to their families by current DNA testing measures.

We choose kindness & compassion for all.

Over the next 12 months, we’re dedicated to building this grassroots network and we hope to hear from everyone who supports truth & transparency in adoptions. We’re looking for compassionate individuals who believe in adoption reform. We’re hoping to build relationships and partnerships with those who have a passion for our cause. What’s happening with Kentucky adoption reform? Is it moving at all? If so, what direction? If it’s not, why not?

Maybe you’ve been involved in this movement in the past, or you’re ready to get involved today? Whatever your role might be in the adoption constellation, we hope you choose truth & transparency over shame and secrecy. Please consider getting involved in supporting our cause. Help us build this network because we can’t expect equality and reform in adoption if we’re sitting at the table alone. Spread the word. Show up to our informal discussion events.

We’re not interested in building a grassroots network online. Of course we will use social media as a way to get the word out there, but ultimately we need you to show up. In real life. Look for our round table events to be scheduled every three months and plan on attending.

We’re excited to network in the community and to build a grassroots alliance that’s focused on adoption reform, advocacy, truth & transparency. We believe as our grassroots network is built, we will become stronger TOGETHER.  If you support our mission, we would love to hear from you and connect with you.
